Country star Sam Hunt arrested for DUI
Sam Hunt was arrested early Thursday in Nashville on charges of driving under the influence and having an open container, Yahoo Entertainment can confirm. The "Kinfolks" singer has been released from jail on a $2,500 bond.
The police report alleges Hunt, 34, was driving the wrong way down Ellington Parkway while drunk, according to Nashville news station WKRN. The driver, identified as Hunt, was reportedly swerving in and out of his lane and a traffic stop was initiated. When asked for identification, the four-time Grammy nominee reportedly tried to give his credit card and passport. Hunt, who wed wife Hannah Lee Fowler in 2017, was alone in the vehicle.
Police say Hunt smelled of alcohol and had bloodshot eyes, according to the report. There were apparently two empty beers next to him. Hunt admitted to drinking alcohol "recently" and a field sobriety test was administered. The arrest warrant states Hunt had a blood alcohol content of .173. The legal limit in Tennessee is .08. He was taken to the Metro jail around 6:30 a.m. and released a few hours later.
Yahoo Entertainment reached out to a representative for the "Drinkin' Too Much" singer but did not immediately receive a response.
Hunt shot to fame after the release of his debut album Montevallo in 2014, which topped the country chart. It was nominated for Best Country Album at the 58th Annual Grammy Awards. He's known for hits like "Body Like a Back Road," "Take Your Time" and "Make You Miss Me."
The country star is due in court on Jan. 17, 2020.
